Custom Fish Replicas and Art

We can do custom Fish Replicas based upon customer specifications. This is ideal for the Catch & Release Fisherman who catches a memorable fish, gets measurements, possibly a photo and then sets it free. Other applications can be replacing an old taxidermy mount that has been damaged, or  deteriorated. It can also apply for a fish caught several years ago, that you want displayed in your home now. Or, you may desire to have a custom decorative piece created.

In the case of custom Fish Replicas, each piece is quoted individually based upon the customer specifications.  Since these are custom made, lead times do apply and will be supplied at the time of  quote. A deposit is required, with the balance due at the time of shipment.

Our Fish Replicas are among the finest on the market. All are anatomically correct and detailed, even in areas that are not always visible when hanging on the wall. For our Show Side wall mounts, the complete fish is painted in base colors, then detailed on the show side. Not just black, or plain on the backside. All fish have both eyes as well. The seams are all finished and scaled. Open mouth fish are detailed and painted inside the mouth. Open gill fish are detailed as well, and whenever possible, molded (actual) gills are used. There are many replicas on the market that do not do many, or any of these things. And they are typically much cheaper. If your looking for quality and a collectible piece, Fish Tail Gallery is the right place.

Measuring Fish and taking Photos

To measure the fish, it's best to lay it flat and quickly measure from the end of the mouth to the end of the tail for the length. The girth is best measured  in the thickest part of the fish. On most Trout, Bass and standard game fish, this is usually in front of the dorsal fin. If you don't have a soft or flexible measuring tape, a piece of string or fishing line can be used. Mark the string and then measure it on a ruler to get the girth. If possible, getting the weight of the fish can be helpful as well. However, you want to get this done quickly and get the fish back into the water.

In order to get as close as possible of a Replica, good photos are necessary. Try to get photos of the sides of the fish that will capture the colors and markings on the fish. Typically, the more photos the better. Also, if there very distinct features or markings on "your" fish, you definitely want to photograph those features. This can include scale colors as well.

You don't have to have all the measurements and photos to get a Replica, but the more information and descriptions you have, the more your Replica will look like "your" fish.

Gallery Version Fish Replicas

Our Gallery Version Replicas are the top of the line. Anatomically detailed, these replicas are airbrushed with the same quality as our standard version, in combination with hand painting. Each scale is hand painted in iridescent, reflective colors which simulates a real fish just out of the water, swimming around along the surface of the water. When you look at the replica from different angles, you'll see the different colors of the fish and different scale colors and/or tones, just as you would a real fish. This is more expensive, but if your looking for the best, and looking for high detail, this is the way to go. It is literally a work of art and a great addition to any collection. Below are some pictures of a Gallery Version Fish.

Standard Version Fish Replicas

The Standard Version Replica is a very high quality airbrushed fish. All the necessary colors and iridescence are put into every fish. The fish is anatomically detailed throughout. On certain species, the scales along the back of the fish may be hand painted, or tipped. The Standard version is really the traditional version. As you can see in the photos below, it is still a very nice mount, and a little more affordable than the Gallery Version.

Custom Molding

We now offer custom molding of your fish, if you happen to have one in the freezer, or if your fish was accidentally killed while being caught. We do not promote the killing of fish, but if you happen to have a fish that did not survive, we can custom mold it to your specifications. The only extra cost to you is the shipping costs associated with shipping it overnight to us. Please email or submit a quote request for details.

Custom Wood

Many of our bases, shadow boxes, display cases, tables & furniture can be made in most types of wood. Certain woods will increase the cost, but if that is what you are looking for, we can quote it for you. Just ask.

Custom Fly Shadow Boxes

We also offer custom Fly Shadow Boxes with your flies inside. We can do the river rock background like our standard fly shadow boxes, but put your flies inside. We have a 5x7 for a single fly or a pair. An 8x10 shadow box which will hold 4-6 flies. We can also get larger or custom shadow boxes as well for more flies. Just call us, or email a quote request and let us know which flies and how many you will be sending us. We will be happy to give you a quote. This makes a great keepsake of your favorite flies and also is a great gift idea. Pre-assembled shadow boxes are also available in our products page, ready to ship.

Click on the Quote Request Button at the top of the page to request a quote or information. Or, you can simply email us with questions.
